NEW MOVIES!
JULY 3 - JULY 9, 2007
DISAPPEARANCES (dir: Jay Craven, PG-13) – Kris Kristofferson plays an adventurous schemer who takes his teenage son on a whiskey smuggling mission across the Canadian border during prohibition. Also starring Genevieve Bujold and Luis Guzman as a
monk. |
DO IT FOR UNCLE MANNY (dir: Adam
Baratta, Not Rated) – When Kari Wuhrer is the biggest star you can get for your low-budget
SWINGERS-ish crime caper comedy of errors, you better have a really funny script to make up for it. |
DRIVING LESSONS (dir: Jeremy Brock, PG-13) – Ginger bollocks from Harry Potter takes a job helping out Julie Walters, an over-the-hill actress whose carefree spirit runs directly opposite to his repressive religious upbringing. It’s the perfect mash-up of BILLY ELLIOT, THE FULL MONTY and SAVING GRACE but without the dancing, nudity and weed. |
*IN A DARK PLACE (dir: Donato
Rotunno, R) – The ten trillionth adaptation of Henry James’ The Turn Of The Screw doesn’t seem too interested in distinguishing itself from the competition. Oh, except for the new, more overt lesbian vibe. |
JAM (dir: Craig
Serling, Not Rated) – With a title like JAM, the tag line “When Lives Collide…” and an ensemble cast whose disparate storylines intersect with a highway accident, you obviously want people to think “CRASH.” |
NEVERWAS (dir: Joshua Michael Stern, PG-13) – How Aaron Eckhart, Ian
McKellen, Brittany Murphy, William Hurt, Nick Nolte, Alan Cumming and Jessica Lange were all convinced to appear in this goofy no-budget fantasy that plays like deleted scenes from THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA is beyond me. Actually, I’m not that surprised about Brittany Murphy. |
OUR VERY OWN (dir: Cameron Watson, Not Rated) – A group of small town friends in Tennessee dream of leaving for the big city in this well-regarded coming of age story starring Jason Ritter, Allison Janney and Cheryl Hines. |
