NEW MOVIES!  AUGUST 7 - AUGUST 13, 2007

ARE WE DONE YET? (dir: Steve Carr, PG) – I still can’t deal with Ice Cube being all family-friendly. This is a dude whose phone was tapped by the FBI, you know?
*DISTURBIA (dir: D.J. Caruso, PG-13) – Appealing young actor Shia LaBeouf stars as a troubled teenager under house arrest who, with way too much time on his hands, starts to imagine nefarious happenings in his neighborhood.
FOLLOW MY VOICE (dir: Katherine Linton, Not Rated) – Rufus Wainwright, Cyndi Lauper, Ben Folds and other musical luminaries perform the songs of HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH in this documentary that also follows four gay teens who found inspiration in that landmark film.
I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE (dir: Chris Rock, R) – Chris Rock is a really funny guy who could use some help choosing film projects. We’ll add this ill-fated re-make of Eric Rohmer’s CHLOE IN THE AFTERNOON to the scrap heap of his filmography that already includes losers like DOWN TO EARTH, HEAD OF STATE and BAD COMPANY.
NOMAD: THE WARRIOR (dir: Sergei Bodrov/Ivan Passer, R) – The box art for this wannabe action epic from Kazakhstan clearly evokes 300. At least that’s what the people who decided to give it an American release are hoping you’ll think.
ROSARIO TIJERAS (dir: Emilio Maille, R) – A sensual hitwoman uses her job to extract vengeance against every man who has ever used and abused her in this gritty Colombian thriller.
THE SALON (dir: Mark Brown, PG-13) – Thanks to the success of HUSTLE & FLOW, we finally get the release of this comedy that has Terrence Howard in a small role. It’s been shelved for three years and I’m sure that’s how he would have preferred it to stay.
TMNT (dir: Kevin Munroe, PG) – No rubber suits. Just bad computer animation. And no vocal contributions from Corey Feldman. Laaaaame.
UNACCOMPANIED MINORS (dir: Paul Feig, PG) – Paul Feig has written and directed for FREAKS AND GEEKS, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT and THE OFFICE but even his talents can’t raise the quality level of this stinko kiddie flick about youngsters stuck in an airport during a blizzard.
