NEW MOVIES!
NOVEMBER 6 - NOVEMBER 12, 2007
COMMUNE (dir: Jonathan Berman, Not Rated) – Learn about the perils of nude gardening, living off the electrical grid, and being monitored by the
F.B.I. with this documentary that chronicles the rise and fall of California's Big Bear Ranch. |
DANNY ROANE: FIRST TIME DIRECTOR (dir: Andy Dick, R) – Andy Dick blurs the line between reality and fiction with his directorial debut about a spastic TV actor
whose hard-partying ways get him blacklisted in Hollywood. |
DECK THE HALLS (dir: John
Whitesell, PG) – I'd totally forgotten this Christmas flop from last year existed. Just as Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito have. |
^ELECTION (dir: Johnny To, Not Rated) – Quentin
Tarantino called this Hong Kong thriller about the bloody process of choosing a new triad leader the best film of the year. And when has QT ever steered you wrong? |
FOUR SHEETS TO THE WIND (dir: Sterlin
Harjo, R) – After his father's suicide, a young Native American man sets out on his own for the first time in this indie shot on location in Oklahoma. |
GIRL 27 (dir: David
Stenn, Not Rated) – Hollywood scandals just aren't that sleazy anymore. Not compared to the time in 1937 when MGM
threw a stag party with 100 under-aged girls. |
IN THE SPIDER'S WEB (dir: Terry Winsor, Not Rated) – I thought the title was going to be some metaphorical thing about killers and victims, but this movie is literally about people getting stalked by some huge spiders in Thailand. |
JOHN WATERS: THIS FILTHY WORLD (dir: Jeff
Garlin, Not Rated) – The trash maestro slays his fans with fun stories about Johnny Depp and the Egg Lady from PINK FLAMINGOS in this raucous spoken word performance. |
MAGNIFICENT DESOLATION: WALKING ON THE MOON (dir: Mark Cowen, Not Rated) – Tom Hanks gets all weepy narrating this documentary about the moon landing. It's pretty good footage even if the government did film it all in New Mexico. |
*RATATOUILLE (dir: Brad Bird, G) – After the slight disappointment of CARS, Pixar is back on top with this winner about a rat who loves to cook. And it's the latest from Brad Bird, the director of THE INCREDIBLES and THE IRON GIANT, probably the two greatest animated movies of the last 25 years. |
SICKO (dir: Michael Moore, PG-13) – Michael Moore takes a decidedly less prominent role than in past films for his documentary about the woes of U.S. health care. Make sure you watch the special features to learn how in Norway you can get the government to pay for a two week tropical vacation to escape your winter blues. |
VIOLET PERFUME (dir: Marisa
Sistach, Not Rated) – Two young friends' lives are thrown into turmoil after one of them is sexually assaulted in this Mexican drama that has won 17 awards around the world. |
WILD 7 (dir: James M.
Hausler, R) – Robert Forster, Richard Roundtree and Robert Loggia play career criminals who try to pull off a bank heist before a bunch of knucklehead kids can. |
