NEW MOVIES!  NOVEMBER 13 - NOVEMBER 19, 2007

AMAZING GRACE (dir: Michael Apted, PG) – Ioan Gruffudd stars as William Wilberforce, the British Parliament member who tried to bring a halt to the slave trade. The fancy cast also includes Albert Finney, Michael Gambon and Rufus Sewall.
^BLAME IT ON FIDEL (dir: Julie Gavras, Not Rated) – A 9-year-old French girl struggles to cope with her flaky parents after they hook up with a bunch of left wing radicals in 1970's Paris.
COUGAR CLUB (dir: Christopher Duddy, Unrated) – Two recent college graduates discover that letting fruit ripen on the vine a little longer often yields a more satisfying result; know what I'm saying?
ETERNAL SUMMER (dir: Leste Chen, Not Rated) – It's a typical teenage quagmire of sexual confusion for three Taiwanese adolescents who, over the course of one fateful summer, learn a lot about living and a little about love.
FALLEN ANGELS (dir: Jeff Thomas, Not Rated) – A CSI team investigating a century old murder accidentally unleashes a bunch of demons. And that never works out very well.
FLANDERS (dir: Bruno Dumont, Not Rated) – French favorite Bruno Dumont returns with another Cannes winner full of non-professional actors, dreary locales and minimalist storytelling.
HEAVENS FALL (dir: Terry Green, PG-13) – Timothy Hutton and David Strathairn star in this account of the real life trial that inspired TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.
LA VIE EN ROSE (dir: Olivier Dahan, PG-13) – This acclaimed bio-pic of Edith Piaf shows how she earned that heartbreaking voice with her tragically cinematic life.
MAN FROM EARTH (dir: Richard Schenkman, Not Rated) – This low-budget sci-fi head trip involves a well-regarded college professor who shocks his colleagues by announcing his sudden retirement. What's even more shocking is his reason for doing so.
OASIS: LORD DON'T SLOW ME DOWN (dir: Baillie Walsh, Not Rated) – Check out what life is like for Oasis on their 18-month world tour with this documentary that features shockingly few fights between the Gallagher brothers.
OCEAN'S THIRTEEN (dir: Steven Soderbergh, PG-13) – I'm really not going to complain if these people get together every few years and churn one of these out. Caper films in general, I think, should be encouraged.
PARIS, JE T'AIME (dir: Alexander Payne, R) – Loads of renowned directors including Gus Van Sant, Tom Tykwer and The Coen Brothers contribute to this series of vignettes celebrating the City of Love, Paris.
RUN GRANNY RUN (dir: Marlo Poras, Not Rated) – At age 94, Doris Haddock decided politics needed some shaking up and ran for senate in New Hampshire. Despite her enthusiasm, she ultimately lost to Judd "The Dud" Gregg.
SHREK THE THIRD (dir: Chris Miller, PG) – I'd rather eat glass. Sorry, kids.
TEN QUESTIONS FOR THE DALAI LAMA (dir: Rick Ray, Not Rated) – Mr. Lama, how do you keep your robes so "flowy"? And also, what is the meaning of time?
THINGS THAT HANG FROM TREES (dir: Ido Mizrahy, R) – Deborah Kara Unger plays a lingerie model in 1960's Florida in this quaintly Lynchian look at small town life.
*THIS IS ENGLAND (dir: Shane Meadows, Not Rated) – Shane Meadows, officially the most British director working today, helms this semi-autobiographical tale of a young boy in the grim early 80's who hooks up with the local skinheads. The nice skinheads though, not the Nazi ones.
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE (dir: Jonathan Hensleigh, Unrated) – Alas, not a W. Axl Rose bio-pic, but just a dopey horror movie about some white people and the cannibals they encounter in New Guinea.
* = Greg's pick of the week!         ^ = Bart's pick of the week!
