NEW MOVIES!
NOVEMBER 20 - NOVEMBER 26, 2007
^ANGEL-A
(dir: Luc Besson, R) - In the first live action movie he's directed
since THE MESSENGER, Luc Besson utilizes crisp back and white
imagery for the story of a small scam artist in Paris and the
possibly supernatural woman who redeems him. |
BEAT
THE DRUM (dir: David Hickson, Not Rated) - An 11-year-old AIDS
orphan in South Africa profoundly affects everyone he meets when he
journeys to Johannesburg to earn enough money to buy his Grandmother
a new cow. |
BROKEN
(dir: Alan White, R) - Heather Graham tries to balance her singing
career with her heroin hobby, to no avail. And her boyfriend Jeremy
Sisto has a really bad temper. |
THE
DEVIL CAME ON HORSEBACK (dir: Ricki Stern / Anne Sundberg, Not
Rated) - To totally bum you out here's a richly detailed documentary
about Darfur. |
EXIST
(dir: Esther Bell, Not Rated) - A Harvard drop-out finds fulfillment
squatting in abandoned buildings and turning his back on a life of
privilege. |
HAIRSPRAY
(dir: Adam Shankman, PG) - At least John Waters is getting some big
residual checks. |
THE
INSURGENTS (dir: Scott Dacko, R) - This nervy thriller follows
four young Americans in the days leading up to the terrorist attack
they're planning. |
LIVE
FREE OR DIE HARD (dir: Len Wiseman, Unrated) - Bruce Willis puts
his tired old carcass through the motions one more time. |
THE
PRODIGY (dir: William Kaufman, Not Rated) - Dueling assassins
face off in this surprisingly well-reviewed action film. |
*RESCUE
DAWN (dir: Werner Herzog, PG-13) - Werner Herzog adapts his
documentary LITTLE DIETER NEEDS TO FLY into a dramatic feature with
terrific results, including indelible performances from Christian
Bale and Steve Zahn. |
STIR
OF ECHOES 2: THE HOMECOMING (dir: Ernie Barbarash, R) - I had
kind of forget STIR OF ECHOES existed. I was totally unaware it
required a sequel. The same goes for Kevin Bacon, who is replaced by
Rob Lowe. |
THESE
FOOLISH THINGS (dir: Julia Taylor-Stanley, Not Rated) - A young
woman sets out to be a famous actress like her mother in this drama
featuring appearances by Angelica Huston, Terence Stamp and Lauren
Bacall. |
WE
ARE THE STRANGE (dir: M. dot Strange, Not Rated) - If
you thought Japanese cartoons were incomprehensible, wait 'til you check out this hallucinogenic
mixed-media animation from America. No refunds. |
