NEW
MOVIES! JULY 14 - JULY 20, 2009
BLACK IRISH (dir: Brad Gann, R) – Two brothers from South Boston take remarkably different paths through life in this gritty
indie. |
BREAK (dir: Marc
Clebanoff, Not Rated) – A terminally ill crime boss hires a hitman to put
him out of his misery in this offbeat noir. This was one of five films David
Carradine had finished before his death. |
THE EDGE OF LOVE (dir: John
Maybury, PG-13) – Things are rough for Sienna Miller and Keira
Knightley. Not only are they fighting over doomed poet Dylan Thomas, but the blitz just started as well. |
^EXPLICIT ILLS (dir: Mark Webber, R) – Rising stars Rosario Dawson, Paul Dano and Lou Taylor Pucci star in actor pal Mark Webber's debut
film - a series of interlocking stories set in Philadephia. |
FRONTRUNNERS (dir: Caroline
Suh, Not Rated) – High school politics get the documentary treatment with this whimsical look at the race to be student body president of Stuyvesant High School. |
*GREY GARDENS (dir: Michael
Sucsy, PG) – The eccentric
dilapidated mansion-dwelling cousins of Jackie O get their story retold with great vigor from Jessica Lange and an impressive Drew
Barrymore. |
THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT (dir: Peter Cornwell, R) – People get really freaked out by the artwork for this movie where the boy appears to be vomiting ghosts. Sadly, there's not much more to this AMITYVILLE HORROR retread. |
HORSEMEN (dir: Jonas
Akerlund, R) – Dennis Quaid tries to find the party responsible for a series of grisly deaths, but all the signs point toward a biblical prophecy. Sounds dopey, but Jonas Akerlund's last movie was SPUN which was surprisingly good. |
THE MINORITY (dir: Dwayne Buckle, Not Rated) – A young African-American man who repeatedly runs into bad luck single-handedly catches a serial killer and sees things finally turn around for him. |
ONE WAY (dir: Reto
Salimbeni, Not Rated) – Til Schweiger plays a dirtball who, to cover up his own infidelities, helps a criminal cover his tracks. Hopefully somewhere along the way he'll learn to do the right thing. |
12 (dir: Nikita
Mikhalkov, PG-13) – It's a Russian TWELVE ANGRY MEN when a bunch of grumps decide the fate of a Chechen teenager accused of murdering his stepfather. |
VAN WILDER: FRESHMAN YEAR (dir: Harvey Glazer,
Unrated) – Kristen Cavalarri, one of those evil girls from LAGUNA BEACH and THE HILLS, heads up this needless quickie
prequel. |
