NEW MOVIES!  MARCH 9 - MARCH 15, 2010

THE BABY FORMULA (dir: Alison Reid, Not Rated) – In this indie comedy bound for Sarah Palin's Netflix queue, two cutie-pie lesbians make a baby in a non-traditional manner.

THE BOONDOCK SAINTS II: ALL SAINTS DAY (dir: Troy Duffy, R) – Finally, the holy grail of movies for young dumb guys gets a squeakquel.

CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY (dir: Michael Moore, R) – Will Michael Moore serve any purpose now that the guy in the White House isn't his arch nemesis? Judging from the limp reaction this got, probably not. I bet he's golfing with George W. Bush while they laugh and light their cigars with $100 bills.
FIX (dir: Tao Ruspoli, R) – Taking a cue from SLACKER, this freewheeling indie follows some documentary filmmakers over the course of one crazy day as they meet dozens of colorful characters as they try to get their buddy out of jail.

HACHI: A DOG'S TALE (dir: Lasse Hallstrom, G) – Although I'm pretty confident that Richard Gere still isn't allowed around domesticated rodents, there's no way he'd lay a finger on this cute dog.

JANKY PROMOTERS (dir: Marcus Raboy, R) – Man, Ice Cube is cuddly now. He used to rhyme about not eating pig cause a pig is a cop and now he's always so cheerful. Man, that guy had the best grimace. Don't neglect what nature gave you, you know?
THE MEMORY THIEF (dir: Gil Kofman, Not Rated) – The adorable Mark Webber plays a young Los Angeleno who gets obsessed with the holocaust after meeting a survivor. Macauley Culkin's ex, Rachel Miner co-stars.

OLD DOGS (dir: Walt Becker, PG) – Take away the motorcycles from WILD HOGS and you've got this lame-brained comedy featuring John Travolta's real-life wife and daughter. At least his son didn't have to sit through this one.

PLANET 51 (dir: Jorge Blanco, PG) – It's E.T. in reverse when human astronaut The Rock lands on an alien planet and an alien boy has to protect him from probing and dissection by panicky adult aliens. Not a bad concept, but it's not Pixar, so why bother?
POSSESSION (dir: Joel Bergvall / Simon Sandquist, PG-13) – Okay, I know this isn't the POSSESSION with Gwyneth Paltrow and it's not the POSSESSION with Isabelle Adjani being molested by a demon so which POSSESSION is this? It must be another J-horror remake with Sarah Michelle Gellar and a suitably generic title.

^PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL 'PUSH' BY SAPPHIRE (dir: Lee Daniels, R) – Normally, Oprah says jump and I say, "Okay, Oprah." But I'm getting a real Lifetime movie vibe off this. Luckily, I flipping love Lifetime movies.

SHIVER (dir: Isidro Ortiz, Not Rated) - Some of the peeps responsible for the drastically underrated Spanish horror flick THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE bring us this new Spanish horror flick that is neither underrated nor overrated because nobody's heard of it.
THE STONING OF SORAYA M. (dir: Cyrus Nowrasteh, R) – Jim Caviezal plays an Iranian guy (which is weird) whose car breaks down in a small town and has the tragic story of a young woman's grisly death recounted to him.

*UP IN THE AIR (dir: Jason Reitman, R) – I know this movie got amazing reviews but how am I supposed to get excited about a movie set entirely in a plane that doesn't involve some South American rugby players with a taste for human flesh?

* = GREG's pick of the week!         ^ = Bart's pick of the week!
