NEW
MOVIES! APRIL 13 - APRIL 19, 2010
|
|
^BEESWAX (dir: Andrew
Bujalski, Not Rated) – Watching
movies can be hard. There are different characters you have to
remember, things going on in the plot that are confusing and a
general sense of forward momentum. Luckily, for those that find
those factors intimidating, some people in Brooklyn invented
mumblecore cinema, a type of movie where nothing happens because
it's not cool to have things happen. |
|
 |
CRAZY ON THE OUTSIDE (dir: Tim Allen, PG-13) – I
think Tim Allen's back on the coke. What else could explain this
goofy directorial debut about a recently paroled small time
criminal? Well, I guess it will hold me over until WILD HOGS 2:
BACHELOR RIDE. |
|
 |
DEFENDOR (dir: Peter
Stebbings, R) – Woody
Harrelson plays a guy who realizes he's a superhero in this quirky
comedy. The only problem? He has absolutely no special skills let
alone super-powers. |
|
|
DOLAN'S CADILLAC (dir: Jeff
Beesley, R) – Oh,
great. Another horror movie about a car based on something Stephen
King wrote. |
|
 |
EASIER WITH PRACTICE (dir: Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Not Rated) – An
undiscovered novelist heads out on the road to promote his book with
his younger brother but soon gets overwhelmed with the boredom and
loneliness of life on the road. Until he meets an interesting lady,
that is. |
|
 |
THE FISH BELONG TO THE PEOPLE (dir: William
Hyler, Not Rated) – This
documentary is about a family of fishing people from Port Clyde who
are struggling to keep afloat through dwindling fish numbers,
government regulations that make them wicked mad and other boring
stuff. |
|
|
HIGH SCHOOL RECORD (dir: Ben
Wolfinsohn, Not Rated) – Four
awkward teenagers struggle through their senior year of high school
in this fake documentary. |
|
 |
IRENE IN TIME (dir: Henry
Jaglom, PG-13) – If
you've been abusing that Ambien prescription and your doctor won't
give you any more, have no fear, the new Henry Jaglom film is now
available for all your sleep deprivation needs. |
|
 |
PIRATE RADIO (dir: Richard Curtis, R) – Phillip
Seymour Hoffman stars in this fact-based comedy about 8 wild DJs
broadcasting illegal rock music on a boat in the North Sea to the
bored kids of the UK. And it's from the guy that made LOVE,
ACTUALLY, which you know you secretly loved. |
|
|
THE SLAMMIN' SALMON (dir: Kevin
Heffernan, R) – Those
crazy guys who made SUPER TROOPERS are back with this comedy set in
a Miami restaurant with some very shady Mafia ties. |
|
 |
TENDERNESS (dir: John Polson, R) – When
a young man is released from a juvenile detention center after
killing his parents, the cop that put him away, played by Russell
Crowe, doesn't believe he's rehabilitated and starts following his
every move, becoming a deadly obsession.
|
|
|
|
*WAVERIDERS (dir: Joel Conroy, Not Rated) – Did
you know that there's a huge community of surfers in Ireland?
Although the water temps are a bit chilly, nothing stops those guys
(and girls) from catching a tube. This entertaining, albeit slight,
documentary is narrated by Cillian Murphy. |
|
 |
YOUSSOU N'DOUR: I BRING WHAT I LOVE (dir: Elizabeth Chai
Vasarhelyi, Not Rated) – Frustrated
by the bad rap Islam was getting around the globe, Youssou N'Dour
decided to make an album dedicated to a more tolerant view of the
religion. This documentary shows how well the album was received
around the world and how it caused him some trouble in his homeland
of Senegal. |
