NEW
MOVIES! JUNE 1 - JUNE 7, 2010
ALICE IN WONDERLAND (dir: Tim Burton, PG) –
These days, Tim Burton tends to alternate one adult film with one
for the kiddies. I'll put this one in the 'not interested' column. |
DAVID CROSS: BIGGER AND BLACKERER (dir: Lance Bangs, Not Rated) –
Funny man or big fat jerk? Watch this new concert film from former
MR. SHOW star and decide for yourself. |
HANNAH FREE (dir: Wendy Jo Carlton, Not Rated) –
I don't know what she's been up to in the 25 years since she was
Cagney or Lacey, but good for Sharon Gless for getting her name and
face so huge on the cover of this respectable indie about a
free-spirited lesbian. |
THE RED BARON (dir: Nikolai
Mullerschon, PG-13) –
Now I know WWI doesn't hold nearly as much fascination for the
general populace that WWII does, but
I'll bet the bi-plane acrobatics in this British-German
co-production will get folks in this town all revved up. |
SMALL TOWN SATURDAY NIGHT (dir: Ryan Craig, R) –
This movie doesn't seem to have much going for it other than it
stars Chris Pine, the new Captain Kirk, and he sings. At least
that's all the marketing team behind it thinks you need know to care
about it. |
THE SUN (dir: Aleksandr
Sokurov, Not Rated) –
I'll admit that his single-take film RUSSIAN ARK was pretty
impressive, but mostly I'm mystified by the critical adoration
received by Alexander Sokurov, director of this film about Hirohito.
THE WOLFMAN (dir: Joe Johnston, R) –
I like the idea of Universal updating its monster classics with
buckets of blood and gore so that the kids of today will dig
them. Too bad this attempt never really gets beyond that high
concept. |
