NEW
MOVIES! JUNE 22 - JUNE 28, 2010
|
|
ANIMALS (dir: Douglas
Aarniokoski, Unrated) – A
washed-up loser in a hick town thinks his luck has changed when he
meets a newly arrived femme fatale. But, nope, she just wants him
for her weird sex cult. |
|
 |
BURMA VJ: REPORTING FROM A CLOSED COUNTRY (dir: Anders
Ostergaard, Not Rated) – You
thought you'd never get to see footage of the crazy 2007 monk
protests in Burma.
But thanks to some Danish documentarians smuggling out footage, you
can see what's going on in that rogue nation for yourself. |
|
 |
THE GOOD GUY (dir: Julio
DePietro, R) – That
Gilmore Girl finds out that romance in the big city is weawy, weawy
hard. |
|
|
^GREEN ZONE (dir: Paul
Greengrass, R) – Little
Miss Voice of his Generation Matt
Damon thinks now is a good time for a preachy drama about the
origins of the Iraq War. Now, Damon? You really want to talk about
2002 now? Even with BOURNE director
Paul Greengrass on board, I'm out. |
|
 |
THE HORSEMAN (dir: Steven
Kastrissios, R) – An
unassuming man goes totally insane and embarks on a rampage of
revenge against the people he holds responsible for the death of his
daughter. Since this is Australian, expect extra unpleasantness. |
|
 |
THE LAST STATION (dir: Michael Hoffman, R) –
Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren have fun in this drama
about the later years of Leo
Tolstoy and wife. |
|
|
LONG PIGS (dir: Nathan Hynes / Chris Power,
Unrated) – Hey,
horror fans. This isn't just another horror
movie about a cannibalistic serial killer. This is a
documentary made of recently unearthed footage from some filmmakers
who went missing a few years ago. Just kidding. It's fake. THE BLAIR
WITCH PROJECT was over 10 years ago and these jokers are
still trying to trick us. |
|
 |
*THE MAID (dir: Sebastian Silva, Not Rated) – In
this acclaimed Chilean drama, a long-serving domestic employee tries
to extract herself from her job and discover a new life for herself.
But getting away from the household she's worked in for over 20
years is not as easy as she thought. |
|
 |
PHYLLIS AND HAROLD (dir: Cindy
Kleine, Not Rated) – Tell
me again why I want to watch a documentary about your parents
marriage? |
|
|
REMEMBER ME (dir: Allen Coulter, PG-13) – That
sexy James Dean vampire gets it on with that Australian chick from
LOST in this dreary romance. |
|
 |
SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE (dir: Jim Field Smith, R) – That
one awkward kid from KNOCKED UP and TROPIC THUNDER gets his very own
romantic comedy.
For about the first half hour, this seems like it could be another
FORGETTING SARAH
MARSHALL or I LOVE YOU, MAN. But it's not. |
|
 |
TIMER (dir: Jac Schaeffer, R) – This
stupid new romantic comedy has a plot so ludicrous I won't even
waste our time detailing it. Did adult humans really make this? |
